Quit Smoking Calculator
See how many days you've been smoke-free, how much you've saved and how your body recovers.
How it works
Enter when you quit, how many cigarettes you smoked a day and the price of a pack. The tool counts the days (the day you quit is day 1), the time smoke-free, cigarettes not smoked and money saved (cigarettes not smoked ÷ 20 × pack price). If you slip, Start over keeps your longest streak. Everything is saved only in this browser.
What happens after you quit (WHO)
- 20 min: Heart rate and blood pressure drop.
- 12 hours: Carbon monoxide in your blood drops to normal.
- 2 weeks: Over 2–12 weeks, circulation improves and lung function increases.
- 1 month: Over 1–9 months, coughing and shortness of breath decrease.
- 1 year: Risk of coronary heart disease is about half that of a smoker.
- 5 years: Within 5–15 years, stroke risk falls to that of a nonsmoker.
- 10 years: Lung cancer risk is about half that of a smoker, and risk of mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, cervix and pancreas cancer drops.
- 15 years: Risk of coronary heart disease is the same as a nonsmoker's.
WHO also notes that quitting at about 30 adds almost 10 years of life expectancy, at 40 about 9 years, at 50 about 6 years and at 60 about 3 years.
